Welcome...

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL.  You can visit the church website for information on the church: www.fbcdupo.org.  Here I hope to share some inspiration and perhaps a few tales from the winding road…this journey called life, where God can be seen in the moments of our day if we are looking for Him.  ~Roger~

Thought for the Day

Even when we don't sense God's presence, His loving care is all around us.

Words to live by...

Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.  Let your heart live forever!

Looking Back, Looking Forward

This Sunday we will celebrate our 97th anniversary.  This will be a time to reflect back over the years and honor the many people who have led and served at First Baptist and helped to bring us to where we are today.

Anniversaries are also a good time to look forward, to take stock of the current condition and set a path forward. We live in very uncertain times and these are the days when the church needs to be a beacon, a safe haven offering hope and security through the love of Christ. We need to take stock of our relevance in our community.  Are we doing all we can to reach out to a lost and hurting community, or are we comfortable where we are? As we begin this new leg of the journey, we may need to make changes and try doing things in new, more effective ways.  I don’t mind hearing, “We’ve never done it that way,” as long as it is followed by, “but I’m really excited about trying it this new way.” I don’t want us to ‘play’ church but to be the church, building the kingdom of God.

Along with a time of reflection as a church body, as individuals we also need to consider what God is calling us to do and whether we are willing to follow. To experience a renewal in our spiritual lives, we must move beyond mere verbal assent and on to determined action, making the choice each day to fix our focus on Christ.

I would challenge you to plan some time to reflect on what God is calling you to do…what new direction He might be leading you toward. What place is He calling you to fill in the life of the church as we embark on this new church year?  Will you answer His call?

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!

On His journey,

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalm 139:23-24
