Thanks for stopping by.  I'm pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL.  You can visit the church website for information on the church: www.fbcdupo.org.  Here I hope to share some inspiration and perhaps a few tales from the winding road…this journey called life, where God can be seen in the moments of our day if we are looking for Him.  ~Roger~

Thought for the Day

Even when we don't sense God's presence, His loving care is all around us.

Words to live by...

Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.  Let your heart live forever!

What's your giving plan?

(Day 15 is posted below.)

There are two ways we can give.  We can give because we have to or we can give because we want to.  Paul writes these words -

Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.   2 Corinthians 9:7

If we are going to be a joyful giver, then our giving will be deliberate and consistent.  And for that to happen we must have a plan for regular systematic giving.  Although we find in God’s Word that tithing is something God expects us to do, we need to keep in mind that it was intended to be an act of devotion and worship from a heart that loves God.  He takes tithing very seriously.

Will a man rob God?  Yet you are robbing Me!  But you say, How have we robbed Thee?  In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

What is a tithe?  It is a tenth of one’s income given to God.  What is an offering?  It is what is given above and beyond the tithe.

This Wednesday night, the 18th, we will be presenting the proposed budget for 2010.  The budget is the road map or blueprint for what we as a church propose to do  this coming year.  In order to accomplish our goals, we need for each member to pray and seek God's will and then be faithful to give as He leads.

Giving starts when you and I give ourselves completely to the Lord.

. . . They first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.   2 Corinthians 8:5

Day 15 – God who delivers

From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. Selah Psalm 3:8

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:2-3

Scripture is full of examples of deliverance from the Lord. Are you in need of deliverance today? Deliverance from fear, from worry, from anger or bitterness, from doubt or despair? Have you laid down your burden before Him, and are you trusting Him for deliverance?

Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.  I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:3-4

God who Restores

Day 14 - God who Restores

[H]e restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalm 23:3

"And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten…" (Joel 2:25).

This is how God restores our wasted years. He brings forth in us supernatural joy, revelation, peace and victory - far beyond our human abilities! He can accomplish more in us, for us and through us now than we ever thought possible. We can stand upright today, as if we had never sinned, as if we had lost no time, as if we were right where we would have been had the devourer never come! God puts us right back on His divine schedule. His eternal purpose and plan are right where He planned them to be.  David Wilkerson

Lord, by such things men live; and my spirit finds life in them too.  You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit  that I suffered such anguish.  In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back.  Isaiah 38:16-17

Perhaps you need to be reminded this week that it is God who restores. Bring to Him your brokenness and rest in the fact that He restores.

God Our Shield

Day 13 – God our Shield

“But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head” Psalm 3:3.

The word “shield” means: protect, guard, defend, or shelter.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”   Psalm 91:4.

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. Psalm 119:114.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11).

Through the love of God our Savior,
All will be well;
Free and changeless is His favor;
All, all is well.
Precious is the blood that healed us;
Perfect is the grace that sealed us;
Strong the hand stretched out to shield us;
All must be well.
Through the Love of God our Savior Words: Mary Peters, 1847

O love of God, our shield and stay
Through all the perils of our way!
Eternal love, in thee we rest
Forever safe, forever blest.

Day 12 - Elohim – The All-powerful One

Elohim is the first name of God we find in the Bible. It is often associated with God in relation to His creation and in references to the great power of God.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God. Deuteronomy 10:17a

Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless.”  Genesis 17:1.

We need to be ever mindful that the God we serve is mighty, strong, and awesome. Everywhere we look we can see the awesomeness of God. Take a moment in your day to reflect on the All-Powerful One and find strength in His mighty power.

Jehovah - I Am

Day 11 – Jehovah – I Am

This is the name used most frequently for God, more than 6800 times in the Bible. In Exodus 3:14, Moses asked God what His name was so he could tell the Israelites who had sent him:

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Jehovah – The Eternal One.  The Ever-Living One.  The Self-Existent One. He lives from Eternity past to Eternity future.  And everything else that lives gets its life from Him.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

Choose today to live in the abundance that God provides through faith in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord and Savior.
