Thanks for stopping by.  I'm pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL.  You can visit the church website for information on the church: www.fbcdupo.org.  Here I hope to share some inspiration and perhaps a few tales from the winding road…this journey called life, where God can be seen in the moments of our day if we are looking for Him.  ~Roger~

Thought for the Day

Even when we don't sense God's presence, His loving care is all around us.

Words to live by...

Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.  Let your heart live forever!

Day 4 - The Lord who heals

Jehovah-Rophe – The Lord who heals
"If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you." Exodus 15:26

“My wayward children,” says the Lord, “come back to me, and I will heal your wayward hearts.”  “Yes, we’re coming,” the people reply, “for you are the Lord our God. Jeremiah 3:22 NLT

"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:4-5

The Lord provides healing for our 'wayward hearts' and minds. Dwell on the ways He has brought healing in your life. Bring to Him your hurts and concerns.

Finding Beauty and Day 3

Day 3 of our 30 day journey is at the bottom of this post, but I wanted to share first some thoughts that I have been pondering.  This has been one of the best years for fall colors that I can remember for awhile. The oranges and yellows have been breathtaking, the reds almost stunning in some cases. The past few years everything seemed to quickly turn to various shades of brown. It has been frustrating us that we haven’t been able to get out to take pictures. The few moments of sunshine haven’t occurred when we could get out with the camera.  One of Beth’s best pictures so far is this one.

You might think we managed to sneak out to the country to snap this (note there is no hint of sunshine in the sky).  But if you look in the upper left corner you’ll see part of the Marriott West…in West County. Beth took the picture from her parking garage at work. Kind of frustrating that the best picture we have this fall is in the middle of the big city…not a scene from some winding road taken in the middle of a nice long Saturday ride.  But I’ve been thinking…it’s the same beauty, lovingly provided by the same Creator so that Beth could enjoy it every time she went in and out of the parking garage for a couple weeks.

Don’t we do that in life sometimes?  We aren’t expecting to find beauty in our routine. We think it is reserved for special places, special days, special people. But our Father desires to fill our days – even our regular, routine, go-to-work, go-to-school, clean-the-house, mow-the-yard days – with His beauty, His grace, His abundant provision and peace. But we often fail to see it because we aren’t looking for it. God has placed beauty of some sort in your life today…did you notice it?

Day 3 - Jehovah-Jireh   The Lord will provide

"Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.  So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided." Genesis 22:12-14

God is preparing an answer even before we know it is a need.

"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Dwell today on His daily provision in your life. He is faithful to provide!

30 Day Worship Journey - Day 2

El-Shaddai – God Almighty
It seems appropriate that God would identify himself as El Shaddai when he appeared to Abram at the age of ninety-nine to tell him that the time had finally come. "Almighty God". Only one who possessed all might would be able to bring this miracle to pass.

God said; "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."(Genesis 17:1-11).

El Shaddai is the faithful all mighty God who keeps his promise even when what he has promised is impossible. He is big enough – mighty enough – for our biggest and most impossible dreams.

Ponder this characteristic of God and allow Him to reveal Himself to you as God Almighty. Give Him praise for the mighty works that He has already done in your life.

30 Day Worship Journey

I’m going to do something a little different on the blog for the month of November.  In his book, The Air I Breathe, Louie Giglio suggests taking a ‘thirty-day worship journey’, carving out a few quiet minutes every day for a month to consider one of God’s attributes. An attribute is simply something that ‘s true about God. A part of His character, a facet of his heart. One of His names. He suggests that you carry that characteristic of God with you all day long, meditating on it, be influenced by it and thanking God for it. After 30 days you will begin to discover the fullness of who He is.

I hope you'll join me as we consider one of God's attributes each day. Feel free to leave a comment if you'd like to share what a certain attribute means to you.

If we are created in the image of God, then our hope, our joy, our peace, our purpose, and our future lie in God alone.

Day 1 - Jehovah Shalom – The God who brings peace to all things
Peace comes not from having a great army but from being obedient to a great God.  Gideon learned to trust Jehovah Shalom, the God of peace, when his 300 men went up against a well-equipped army of  120,000 Midianites.

It is the presence of God, not the absence of trouble, that brings peace.  When life gets too hectic and God’s voice is drowned out by all the noise, we lose touch with His presence and His peace.

Think about Jehovah Shalom today, the God who brings peace and let His peace fill you.

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

Circumstances have nothing to do with peace;
God’s presence does.
